What is the test version of OligoOrderGFDB?

Test Version: 3.10 (since November 2006): unified version numbering.
since December 2004: 1.0 ported this software to Bielefeld University (by Volker Moell).

How do I get access to the electronic oligo ordering system?

Ask your group leader! Your group leader will have to contact us via the GFDB task interface with three pieces of information:

  1. name(s) of group member(s) to be authorized, and
  2. the Kostenstelle(n)/PSP-Elements to be charged
  3. phone number of the group members to be authorized.
  4. Delivery address for your group (Building, Room number)

Since over time more and more computers have been added to the list of Macs/ PCs/etc. to be used for oligo ordering, ordering is now possible from all computers (if linked to the Ethernet and TCP/IP enabeled). For Wlan connections you need to install the VPN client supported by the BRF support. The main security level still is the password and the control of access to the Kostenstellen.

Once this information has been processed by SCF, you can use OligoOrderGFDB.

You need an up-to-date browser with Javascript enabeled.

How does OligoOrderGFDB function in general?

OligoOrderGFDB is a local "e-commerce" system which is specialized for ordering oligonucleotides. A flowChart of the general process shows the various steps involved:

  • identification of the user on the basis of the Cebitec account username and password (handeled by "UserGFDB")
  • collection of the information relevant for the user identified (responsible group leader, Kostenstelle/PSP-Element, phone number, Email address, etc.)
  • collection of the data on the oligo(s) to be ordered (designation, length, sequence, synthesis scale, purification grade, modification required)
  • database check to determine which supplier offers the oligo requested
  • calculation of the price offered by the suppliers in the system (testly Metabion, Sigma)
  • user decides on the supplier
  • database entry of the completed order, generation of a log file entry, mail to responsible group leader with condensed info on the order placed
  • approval of the order by the responsible people
  • generation of the order Email in the computer-readable format of the selected supplier.

General information about the electronic ordering system

  • You can only access and use the oligo order page if you are registered (see above).
  • You will need your Cebitec user name and password to access the page.
  • You need to make sure before you order that your group leader agrees with your order. Immediately after you placed your order, your group leader will be automatically informed about your order.
  • All orders are logged. The resulting log file is kept and used by the "Verwaltung".
  • Information written into the "Remarks" field can be used to understand for which purpose the oligo was designed (e.g. sequencing primer My-Favorite-Gene cDNA, EMSA probe XYZ-box upper strand, and so on). This information stays in-house and is NOT send to the synthesising company (in contrast to the text in the "special comments"-field).
  • You will receive a notification from the synthesising company telling that they got your order. Please contact us via GFDB task interface if you do not get this notification 6 hours after you placed your order.
